How to Tell if an Online Course is Right for You

Written by Thomas Edison State University | Friday, July 10, 2015

Most major life choices should not be made lightly. Research and preparation will most likely factor heavily into your decision. After all, you wouldn’t buy a car without test driving the vehicle, or buy a house without taking a tour. So, naturally, shouldn’t you do the same for your education?

If you are thinking about going back to school, but unsure how online classes work, how do you know if they are even right for you? Why isn’t there a test run or “try before you buy” option?

Many students have hesitations and questions about using online courses to finish their degrees. With our Online Test Drive, you can learn the ins and outs of taking an online class for yourself, including computer compatibility requirements, course requirements and how to post assignments, all before you apply. Here is how you can take it for a spin.

How Does the Online Test Drive Work?

The Online Test Drive is designed to simulate an online course through a series of brief videos. These videos will guide you through the key actions inherent in an online class at the University, including how to post a discussion topic and reply to a discussion thread. It will also demonstrate how to submit assignments and take quizzes online. Most importantly, the videos will explain how to get in touch with your mentor for when you have questions.

Registration is quick and easy and, once enrolled, you will have access to the course for 30 days.
